Walking in the city has always formed an essential part of Rachel Lichtenstein’s creative practice, as an artist, a writer and a local historian. She started guiding in East London in 1991, after she slowly learnt the history of the area by repeatedly walking the streets, first by herself and later with her mentor, the legendary Professor William J Fishman (author of The Streets of East London).

Over the past twenty years Rachel has conducted countless walking tours around Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Hatton Garden and Clerkenwell, with diverse groups of people, including: elderly former residents (who have constantly updated and informed her knowledge) school children, university students, festival and conference participants, private parties and foreign tourists. The different tours she offers are listed below. On occasion, she is able to adapt her walks for special events. Rachel is no longer conducting regular tours but if you would like to book a guided walk (for a minimum party of 10) please contact Rachel directly for availability and prices.
